Lick o’ Paint, Lick o’ Paint. Done!

// March 9th, 2011 // No Comments » // construction, design

With the riser wrapped and ready to shake rumps, it’s time to get this puppy wrapped up. This is where The Pimp steps back to let the pros get on the mic. I know how to paint, but I ain’t no Picasso, dawg.

So we hired ourselves some Orelly Men to get it done. Ok, they were really Chris’ men, but you get my drift.

The biggest reasons to hire a pro for this part are first the Screen Goo, and secondly the Matte Black ceiling. With my CribMac 1.0 setup, I did the Screen Goo painting myself. It turned out okay, but I wanted a more polished look here: it’s really easy to get a streaky Screen Goo job, so it’s better to get real painters who know what they are doing. Also, painting a ceiling is hard enough, but painting it black is almost impossible to get right without making a huge mess.

How NOT to Flip Your Doors

// March 8th, 2011 // No Comments » // construction, rant

Just like Picard in the series finale, this post moves back and forth in time. Why, because The ‘Pimp was SO disgusted at this portion of the job, he couldn’t bring himself to write about it until now. This portion of the story happened before the riser construction got started.

Those stupid doors.

If you remember, in a previous episode, I mentioned that the doors would have to be flipped to keep from hitting the riser. Well, this project was SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS. Why?

We’re getting close, folks. Now for the finishing touches, and His Royal Pimposity will be ruling from a throne even the King of Rock would envy. This Rump Shakin’ Riser is ready to be covered with carpet and padding, and then the fun begins.

To peep back at the plan for this level of awesomeness, download the schematic. If you are just joining us now, well, you missed the fun. But stay awhile. You too, might walk away thoroughly pimped.

Now that the rump-shakers are in full effect, it’s time for the ‘Pimp to close the patient up. This should be something like an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Naaaahhh. Cooler than that drivel, fer sure!

For a recap what we are doing here, download the schematic. Do pay attention, mkay? Cool. Let’s get rollin’.

How to Build a Rump-Shakin’ Riser – Part 5

// February 19th, 2011 // No Comments » // construction

All right, childen! This is the episode for cuttin’ and hammerin’ and screwin’ (geez…not that kind. Get your mind out the gutter, will ya?) We get down to constructing the frame, and for this, The Digital Pimp always employs the help of his trusty sidekick, BFAM Fred.

Since the Rump Shakin’ Riser will be supporting a lot of weight and rump-shakers, there are some special design features that have to be built in. For a recap on all the features, download the schematic and study it like a playbook.

How to Build a Rump-Shakin’ Riser – Part 4

// February 16th, 2011 // No Comments » // construction

In this episode, the Digital Pimp meets his match: electrical building codes. Clearly, The ‘Pimp didn’t have enough to drink before he got started on this phase of the project. To understand where things went off the rails, read on, children.

If you have been paying attention (and, with The ‘Pimp in the house, um…why not?), you know the Rump Shakin’ Riser features integrated AC power to serve the powered theater recliners. For a refresher, download the schematic, y’all. We gotta move on…

So, the idea here was to tap the nearest outlet by running wiring from the platform, under the carpet, over to the wall, through a surface conduit, and then into the wall. The first part of the project was way tricky, but the end was even crazier.

How to Build a Rump-Shakin’ Riser – Part 3

// February 12th, 2011 // No Comments » // construction

In this chapter of “The Adventures of the Digital Pimperelle,” we have to deal with some prep work before we get rolling with construction of the Rump Shakin’ Riser. First, speaker wires for the shakers, then the power for the seats.

One of these tasks will be a piece of cake. The other…weeeeeeeeeelllll. More on that later. We cover the easy one in this post.

How to Build a Rump-Shakin’ Riser – Part 2

// February 9th, 2011 // 1 Comment » // construction

In our last episode, our fearless Digital Pimp was about to embark on his most dangerous mission yet—building a rump shakin’ seating platform for CribMac 2.0. But unlike some feckless villain, endlessly monologuing about the plan, I actually made a plan.

It started with a basic question. How big does this thing need to be?
